Die Herausforderung
The project ran one of the largest Telegram groups in its niche — around 80,000 members and thousands of messages a day. Scammers hit it in coordinated waves: fake airdrop links, impersonation of the admin team, and hijacked accounts posting wallet-drainer sites. A volunteer moderation team of nine was manually deleting and banning around the clock, and still spam sat visible for minutes at a time. Every automated tool they'd tried was either too aggressive — muting real members during price swings — or too slow to matter.
Die Lösung
The team added Telm as an admin and left it in Monitoring Mode for two weeks. The bot ran its three-layer detection and the CAS blocklist against live traffic while touching nothing, so the mods could review every shadow action in the dashboard and confirm it matched their judgement. They tuned custom rate limits and link filters against the observed feed, allow-listing the project's own domains. Once the shadow log was clean, they switched the group to active enforcement. Telm now deletes scam links, bans CAS-listed and high-confidence spam accounts on sight, and mutes rate-limit offenders in real time.
Das Ergebnis
Enforcement went live without a single reported false ban in the first month, because the rules had already been proven in Monitoring Mode. Telm blocks the overwhelming majority of scam spam before members ever see it, and the volunteer team went from round-the-clock firefighting to reviewing a weekly moderation log. With the noise gone, real conversation picked back up.
